General Information

OVERVIEW
The Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association (MAWA) is an AAU Wrestling Club in the Middle Atlantic Association of the AAU. The MAWA has also effectively served as the Wrestling Committee of the Middle Atlantic Association since its inception in 1974.

The MAWA currently provides the following wrestling services to about 12,000 folkstyle (high school style) athletes within 17 states (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina):

1. Coordinate 29 community based folkstyle district tournaments spread over the 17 state service area.

2. Coordinate and organize four regional folkstyle tournaments in which place winners in the 29 district events can compete to advance to the annual Eastern National Championships Tournament.

3. Coordinate and organize the annual Eastern National Championships Tournament at rotating locations in the 17 state service area.

4. Select and organize MAWA teams to travel to the AAU National Disney Duals in Orlando, Florida.

5. Recruit and select coaches and team leaders for these MAWA teams to travel to the AAU National Disney Duals in Orlando, Florida.

6. Arrange entry, travel and lodging for these MAWA teams to travel to the AAU National Disney Duals in Orlando, Florida.

The MAWA currently provides the following wrestling services to about 1,200 international style (freestyle and greco roman) athletes within the three states in the Middle Atlantic Association (Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey) and the larger 17 state MAWA service area (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina):

1. Coordinate and run 7 community base greco/freestyle district tournaments within the Middle Atlantic Association.

2. Coordinate, organize, and run the annual Association Championships in freestyle and greco roman wrestling.

3. Develope a pool of pairers and referees to organize and officiate these events as well as the AAU Grand Nationals and Multisport Tournaments.

4. Provide economic assistance to athletes and officials who choose to participate in the annual AAU Grand Nationals Tournament.

5. Select and organize MAWA teams to travel to the AAU National Multisport Tournament.

6. Recruit and select coaches and team leaders for these MAWA teams to travel to the AAU National Multisport Tournament.

7. Arrange entry, travel and lodging for these MAWA teams to travel to the AAU National Multisport Tournament.
